Physiotherapy reimbursement

Fysiotherapiepraktijk van Delden has contracts with all Dutch health insurers. Below you can read about physiotherapy reimbursements from health insurances.

Good to know: If you do not have supplementary insurance and your physiotherapy treatment is not reimbursed by your insurer, you must pay for the treatment after the treatment. This can be done in cash and by pin. You will be sent a summary bill at the end of the month.

Physiotherapy under basic and supplementary insurance

In the Netherlands, we have basic insurance and supplementary insurance. In short, physiotherapy is reimbursed to a limited extent under the basic insurance. A good supplementary insurance, which includes sufficient physiotherapy treatments, is therefore recommended. It is good to know that using physiotherapy from the supplementary insurance does not cost you any excess.

What falls under the basic insurance and what under the supplementary insurance?

Basic insurance

From the basic insurance, physiotherapy is reimbursed to a limited extent. For certain conditions requiring a lot of physiotherapy, adults may qualify for reimbursement from the basic insurance after the 20th treatment.

For children and young people up to the age of 18, the basic rule for 2025 is that the first 18 physiotherapy treatments are covered by the basic insurance if indicated.

The basic insurance (and therefore not the supplementary insurance) is subject to a compulsory Deductible. In 2025, the obligatory Own Risk is a minimum of € 385.00 per year. This means that if in the new year you incur healthcare costs (with the exception of GP care, obstetric and maternity care, free population screening and the flu shot for high-risk groups) that are covered by the basic insurance, you will first have to pay the excess amount yourself. After that, all costs are reimbursed from the basic insurance according to the policy conditions.

Supplementary insurance

It is therefore possible that you need physiotherapy for a condition and that it is not at all or only partially reimbursed from the basic insurance. Your personal situation may also vary from year to year. We recommend that you take out suitable supplementary insurance that includes sufficient physiotherapy treatments. After all, it can easily happen that you unexpectedly need to call on the help of a physiotherapist.

Be careful in your choice of health insurer. There are big differences in the way health insurers reimburse physiotherapy in the supplementary insurance. Therefore, take a good look at your healthcare policy. If your current policy is insufficient, you can cancel your current health insurance before 1 January. Once you have done so, you will have until 1 February to apply for a new health insurance policy.

Insurers have an acceptance obligation for basic insurance, but not for supplementary insurance. You will then often have to fill in a medical declaration. Keep this in mind, as it can take extra time.

Using physiotherapy from the supplementary insurance does not cost you any obligatory deductible excess.

If you do not have supplementary insurance and no chronic indication, the rates below will apply in 2024.
