Extended Scope Specialists are experienced physiotherapists trained at master’s level, with additional medical training in the field of Extended Scope. It is expected that like in countries such as Canada, England and Australia, Extended Scope physiotherapists will have more competence on musculoskeletal examination and treatment options.You can think of targeted referral of patients to the second line for CT scan, MRI, Ultrasound, X-ray and to specialists such as orthopaedists, neurologists, rheumatologists and rehabilitation doctors.

Door de extra scholing kan deze fysiotherapeut voor efficiëntere zorg en ontlasting van de huisarts zorgen door een onderbouwd advies op het gebied van het bewegingsapparaat (botten, skeletspieren, gewrichten, kapsels, kraakbeen en banden) voor te leggen aan de huisarts. Dit advies heeft betrekking op aanvullend onderzoek en doorverwijzing naar de tweede lijn (orthopeed, neuroloog, internist, reumatoloog).

Not only clear imaging of abnormality in anatomical structures but also the real movement pattern – a dynamic imaging!

Ultrasound gives our practice an extra dimension. Musculoskeletal ultrasound in the functional examination reveals the point of application of treatment. Repeated measurement after the treatment intervention supports the treatment success very visually…. As a patient, you can see what is going on internally.

PNE

What is PNE?

Percutaneous Needle Electrolysis (PNE) is a treatment method in which a thin needle is inserted into or around the tissue to be treated under ultrasound guidance. A low-level galvanic current is then applied through the needle.

PNE can be used as part of physiotherapy treatment for certain conditions involving tendons, muscles and other structures of the musculoskeletal system. Before treatment, the physiotherapist will assess whether PNE is suitable for your condition.

What are the benefits of PNE?

PNE can be combined with other forms of physiotherapy and exercise therapy. By using ultrasound, the physiotherapist can accurately target the area being treated.

The treatment:

• is performed under ultrasound guidance;
• is locally targeted at the area being treated;
• can be combined with active exercise therapy and training;
• is performed by a physiotherapist who has received specific training in PNE.

The effect of the treatment and the number of sessions required may vary depending on the individual and the condition being treated.

Costs

The initial consultation and ultrasound examination may be reimbursed if your supplementary health insurance includes physiotherapy. An additional fee of €57 per PNE treatment session applies. This additional fee is not reimbursed by health insurers.

The number of treatments required is determined based on your condition, the examination findings and your progress during treatment.

The treatment is performed by a specially trained PNE physiotherapist.
